Town Trip

For our PBL this term, we are learning about Turangawaiwai.

To help us with this, we went into town yesterday and went to Victoria Square Margaret mahy and even went into a Waka.

Something I learnt was That Captain Cook was the first person besides the Maori people to step foot on New Zealand. And that there were 13 woven mats in the city. And that pou is just a wooden carving and it tells a story of the Maori. And I learnt that Eels were called Tuna and it is different to tuna in a can.

The thing I found the most interesting was the waka beacuse we were going really fast and we were just peddling the boat with no engine and we did a charnt. And with Miss Carney when we did a scavenger hunt and we did some art with the Maori patterns.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because there were a lot of designs that I can use for my PBL. And I learnt a lot of facts about the mats with Miss Bryce. And there was a lot of stuff around the big circuit around Margaret mahy .

  1. Hi Seb,

Sounds like your trip into town was a very interesting one. Did you know about the mats and the Pou berfore going into town? I have done the walk and it was all new to me. I like how you mentioned that Tuna is different to the tuna in a can, great idea. What did you end up doing for your PBL?
